The Off Season... (Nov 2008) The 450SX was back at the track for the "BF Goodrich Street Wars 3" event at Englishtown. This was the cars first competition and the last event for the season. After sorting out some minor fuel issues during the qualifying runs the car went two rounds before being eliminated by way of a red light. It was a good event and a lot was learned about the car and bracket racing in general. The temperature was in the low 30s so traction was continually going away as the day progressed. Learning to cope with that scenario proved a challenge as this cars quickness is primarily due to the good short times. Anyway... the car is tucked away now for the winter and will be going under the knife before next season. The heads will be swapped for some 94-95 oval port heads, which will come along with custom billet camshafts, dual valve springs, and titanium retainers. The heads will be milled some to achieve a static compression ratio in the 11.5-12.0:1 range. The bottom end will remain stock with no changes whatsoever, same goes for the intake and exhaust systems. The stock ECU will be upgraded with a NisTune realtime programmable ECU. With the car currently weighing in at 2832lb with driver, there is no need for extreme power adders. The car needs to be able to consistently run in the 11.8 to 12.0 range and 40-60 more HP will get it there. With how mild the stock cams are, we're confident that these minor changes will get us the needed results. If not, the bottom end will be modified to find the remaining power needed. Check back in the next months for updates regarding these upgrades. On Another Note... The Godspeed Z32 is currently getting it's heart transplant. This will also be a VH powerplant, but the car will be set up for grip events at Thunderbolt raceway. Don't expect to see the car in any competitions this coming year, but it will be out for shakedown runs. Some would ask why go through the trouble of installing a VH when a Twin Turbo swap is a bolt in affair. Honestly, we've come to love the VH engine, and being that its lighter than the VG, we'll save weight and reduce the polar moment at the same time. Not to mention the torque curve that is much more flexible on the VH. Check back for progress on this little project as well... Elevens! (Oct 2008) The 450SX was back at the track this week, and hit the 11 second mark. As a matter of fact, the car ran in the 11.9 second range for 6 consecutive passes. Again, this is still a 100% stock 130k mile VH45DE with intake, headers, exhaust, and an AFC tune.
The first pass of the night was a 12.32 @ 108.5 with a lot of wheelspin. With the low temp we needed to lower the two-step and the tire pressure. The next pass was a 11.99 @ 108.9, and the car kept getting quicker from there. The two passes above were the quickest/fastest of the night. Here's a video of the best pass of the night:
Check back soon for more updates! Getting Things Sorted Out (Oct 2008) The 450SX was back at the track. This time with new tires, 2-Step, and Transbrake. We couldn't have asked for better results, the car has now made its fastest and quickest passes to date.
The first pass of the night was a 12.26 @ 107.5, the next pass was a 12.13 @ 109.1, and the following two passes are shown above. With some more dialing of the tire pressures, an 11 second pass may be possible. This is still on a 100% stock, 130,000 mile 91 VH45DE. The only power modifications are the intake, headers, exhaust, and a mild tune with an Apex-i SAFC-1. Here's a video of the best pass of the night:
Check back soon for more updates! The specs have changed on the car some since the last update. Please check out the cars specs for details on its current state. There are more pictures available there as well. The 450SX has made it's maiden voyage! (Sep 2008) Well, this page hasn't been updated in a long long time, but now that the car runs, drives, and has made it to the track, we felt it was time for an update. The specs have changed on the car a lot since the last update. In an effort to shakedown the drivetrain a bone stock '91 VH45DE was installed. Please check out the cars specs for details on its current state. There are many more pictures available there as well. The car ran well for a shakedown session. Without using the transbrake, 2-step, or linelock, it managed a quickest ET of 12.80sec @ 105MPH and a fastest ET of 12.82 @ 106.55MPH. We'll be going to the track soon with new slicks and all of the launch assists hooked up. That should greatly help the poor short times and drop the ET significantly. All in all, we're very happy with the cars performance. Timeslips:
A new look for Godspeed-Racing! (Jan 2008) Godspeed Racing has been on a bit of a hiatus for the last seven to eight months, and for that we apologize. However, as of January of this year, we are back! The plans for our car have changed slightly, but the meat and potatoes have remained the same. We're still working on our S14, it is still VH45DE powered, and we still plan on being at the track by the end of this year for test and tune. Check back soon for updates, we will be populating the site with more pages, including up to date photos of the car, details on the updated setup, and more information about Godspeed Racing. We would like to thank God for putting us in a place where we can work on our car again, helping us with our finances, and allowing us the time to work on something we truly enjoy. Welcome to Godspeed-Racing.com!
Godspeed Racing is a group of Christian men and women who also happen to be automotive enthusiasts. In 2006 we decided to use our talents to serve God. To that end, we’re building a racecar to get out to the track and enjoy ourselves. We are not out to convert the world. You won’t find us handing out Bibles at events, or attempting to force Christianity onto every person we come in contact with. But if you want to know more about our faith, we'd be more than happy to talk.
For anyone to understand why we are building a race car, and why we’ve chosen the name “Godspeed Racing”, one fundamental truth needs to be understood. We believe that God is real; he created this world, everyone, and everything in it. We also believe that God has given every person talents and gifts, how we chose to use those talents in life is our choice, and that’s the beauty of free will.
Some of us are Engineers, others students, but we all have a love of the Lord and a love of cars. Many people would ask “How can an Engineer that has a talent for building cars serve God?" Well after much thought the answer became clear. Build a car that performs as flawlessly as possible and then give the credit for the cars performance where it is due…
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ who you are serving.” – Col 3:23-24
If our motivation interests you, please come and talk to us. We would be more than happy to share with you what makes us tick. You will find us racing at every opportunity we can get. The sport of Professional Drag Racing is a sport that is hardly touched by faith. Yet on countless occasions you will see professional football players, basketball players, baseball players, Olympians, among others all giving glory to God for their successes. We want to do the same...
Some of us are professionals, most others are hobbyists, but we feel that the things we enjoy in life are directly a result from what God has done in our lives, we want to give him glory where its due.
Please check back soon to find updates about us and our car.
